Sand Release (砂遁, Saton; English TV "Sand Style") is a basic chakra nature which unlike the majority of other natures, does not involve the direct conjuration of sand, but rather the manipulation of it within the relative vicinity. It is both offensive- and defensive-styled, augmented for making long-ranged attacks, while being constantly defended by a layer of sand.

This is an advanced nature kekkei genkai formed through simultaneously combining earth-based chakra with wind-based chakra. The Sand Release, can create sand, or various other forms of it, ultimately allowing the user to manipulate.

Only few, past and present, of the Sand shinobi have become capable of manipulating sand to the extent that they could be considered a native user of the nature itself. Attempts to replicate it yielded the invention of the kekkei genkai Magnet Release, which focuses on manipulating magnetic minerals, such as iron and gold.
